1.第一个句子是独立主格
主句是his mother began to tell him a story 所以主语是his mother
但是从句主语是HE 即主语发生了变化 从句的动词应该变为非谓语动词 这就是独立主格的关键!@!非谓语动词你懂吧 他在书桌旁坐了下来 他坐下当然是主动坐了 所以用doing形式（非谓语动词doing形式表示主动或者伴随发生的一件事情）
2.第二句话 是不是有个WHEN啊 那就是时间状语从句 When he seated himself at the desk,his mother began to tell him a story.
为什么用seated呢 因为主句began是begin的过去式啊 表明发生在过去 那根据句子意思 时态没有发生跳变 ‘他坐’也发生在过去 故用seated
总而言之 第一句seat变成了非谓语动词 第二句seat是实实在在的动词 只不过是过去式罢了
