My idol is Stephen Hawking,an English theoretical physicist.Hawking was the first to set forth acosmology explained by a union of the general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics.He is a vigorous supporter of the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics.
Hawking has achieved success with works of popular science in which he discusses his own theories and cosmology in general; his A Brief History of Time stayed on the British Sunday Times best-sellers list for a record-breaking 237 weeks.
Unfortunately Hawking has a motor neuron disease related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS),or Lou Gehrig's Disease,a condition that has progressed over the years.He is almost entirely paralysed and communicates through a speech-generating device.
At that time,he was told by the doctor that he only had three month left.But He survived and lived in a respectable way till now.
In August 2014,Hawking accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge to promote ALS/MND awareness and raise contributions for research.As he had had pneumonia in 2013,he was advised not to have ice poured over him,but his children volunteered to accept the challenge on his behalf.
