关于翻译的标准,从十九世纪末的严复提出的“信、 达、雅”,到鲁迅先生的“信”与“顺”,以及美国尤金• 奈达的“功能对等理论”或“动态对等理论”,直到目前 翻译界普遍认同的“忠实、通顺”的原则,这些观点都表明好的译文必须正确而又流畅地表达原文的意思,而且还 要保持原作的风格,对英汉习语的翻译要求也应如此.

习语是人们在长期使用语言的过程中形成的相对比较固定的搭配,有其特殊的形式,不宜改变,因此我们在使用和翻译中要尤其引起注意.为了使英汉习语的翻译能最大限度地体现东西方文化的巨大差异,针对每条习语的具体情况,根据上下文的语境来确定它的具体含义,并采用相应的翻译策略,如直译法、意译、借用法、补译法、节译法和音译加注法等,使译文不仅能准确地表达原文的意义,而且还能再现原作的艺术风貌.
