Module 9 English for you and me
Unit 1 I’m proud of what I’ve learnt. 我为我所学的知识而自豪。
Betty: How much progress in English do you think you’ve made this year, Lingling? 贝蒂：玲玲，你认为今年在英语上你取得了多大的进步？
Lingling: Not bad. In fact, I think I’ve achieved a lot, and I’m proud of what I’ve learnt. I’ve reached a level which is quite good… and I hope it’s good enough for the exams, anyway. Above all, it’s the subject that I’m best at, although my handwriting could be better.
玲玲：还不错。事实上，我觉得我收获很大，而且对自己所学到的东西我也感到自豪。我已经达到了一个很不错的水平…不管怎么样，我希望我的水平能够足够应对考试。最重要的是，它是我最擅长的科目，尽管我的书写需要提高。
Betty: I think you’ve done really well. Learning a foreign language requires a certain effort, however easy it is. 贝蒂：我认为你做的很好了，学习一门外语需要一定的努力，不管它有多么容易。 Lingling: I don’t think it’s really difficult to learn English, although it’s a language which looks simpler than it actually is. I just hope I can continue to make progress next year.
玲玲：我认为学习英语不是真的那么难，尽管它并不像看上去那么简单。我只是希望明年我能继续取得进步。
Betty: Have you ever been to an English corner? 贝蒂：你去过英语角吗？
Lingling: You mean, those clubs where you go to practice your English? I always thought they were for people whose English was already quite good. 玲玲：你是指那些你去练习说英语的俱乐部吗？我原来一直以为这些俱乐部是为那些英语已经很好的人开办的。
Betty: Well, I went to an English corner once, and there were some people whose level was fairly low. But it’s good to meet other people who want to learn English, no matter how good their English is. And you can often meet some people who come from the UK or the USA.
贝蒂：嗯，我曾经去过一次英语角，而且那里有些人的英语水平相当低。但是能够遇到一些想学英语的人是件好事，他们的英语好坏不是太重要。而且你可以经常遇见一些来自英国或美国的人士。
Lingling: Anyway, what I like most is that you can use English wherever you go in the world.
玲玲：无论如何，我最喜欢的是无论走到哪里都可以用英语。
Betty: But I wonder if there will soon be more people speaking Chinese. 贝蒂：但是我想不久也许会有更多的人说汉语。
