the 14-year-old girl from maine,us,wrote a letter to seventeen,a famous american magazine for teenagers.since the wormen in it are always photoshopped to have perfect skin and slim bodies,she asked them to include pictures of women without photoshopping.
"when we compare ourselves to pictures like on the cover of seventeen,we think ,'oh,the're so perfect--i'll never look like them',"bluhm said."i thought that if we showed pictures that weren't photoshopped,they could know their own beauty and feel good about themselves."
several studies in recent years have shown that these pictres have a big influence on women,especially young women.at least 69 percent of girls in 5th to 12th grade say that magazine pictures influence their idea of a perfect body.
bluhm visited seventeen's office in new york.the editor-in-chief met with her to discuss the topic,and accepted her letter.
"we're proud of julia for being so active about a topic--it's exactly the kind of attitude we encourage in our readers,"said a seventeen spokesperson.
