Are Smart Phones Necessary for Students?

When facing numerous advertisements of smart phones with fascinating functions,we are very likely to be attracted and to buy one out of impulse.The reasons we want those high-tech gadgets include,but are not limited to,the desire to experience the latest technology,the triumph it brings when you show it to friends and the convenience we thought it will bring to us.But before you make the final decision,please calm down and ask yourself a question:Is it really necessary?For one thing,some of those alleged “advanced” functions are not so useful as we imagined it would be.Take myself as an example,I bought my cell phone a year ago,and now I regret having done so.My cell phone has many functions such as digital camera,music/video player,FM radio,different kinds of interesting APPs,etc.it was really appealing when I saw it for the first time.But after using it for a while,I found that I had neglected an important factor—the battery.I had to get it charged every day for its only 700 mAh battery.If I wanted to keep it working for a longer time,I had to give up those cool APPs and just use it to make phone calls and send messages,which are the basic functions of every ordinary cell phone.My smart phone is not “smart” anymore because now I seldom use those functions which attracted me in the first place.What’s more,it didn’t bring me convenience.Instead,getting it charged

every day makes it even more inconvenient.For another,we can’t afford these advanced technologies.A smart phone of a famous band will cost more than a “Netbook”.In fact,most of us already have a PC or a digital camera or a MP4 player,so it seems obviously unnecessary to buy a cell phone with multifunction.Why bother paying a large sum of money for something you already have?Moreover,with the rapid development of science and technology,what you think is advanced now may become out-of-date only after a few months.And the triumph of showing off will soon die down.It’s impossible to change your cell phone so frequently.In short,it’s unwise of college students to buy those sophisticated smart phones.Focus on what are really useful rather than those gimcracks.Think twice before you make up your mind.
