I must apologize for my absence on Monday morning. I felt terribly sorry for my mistake and I would like to report how did the situation happen for you to take it into consider that whether it can be understand as an acceptable reason.

On Sunday I took part in a class bascketball game. Maybe it's the strong Northwest wind that made me got a cold after the game. I got a fever on Sunday night and was not able to recover until Tuesday. On Monday morning I was really not feeling well so I did not go for our meeting. I am really sorry about my mistake and I am writing this letter to beg your forgiveness.

Nonetheless, I still hope we can arrange another meeting to discuss the assignment problem.
