用于 instead of,是复合介词,除含有“代替”之意外,还含有否定概念“而不”的意思,其后通常接名词或代词.如：
I’ll have tea instead of coffee,please.我要茶,不要咖啡.
Will you go to the meeting instead of me?你代替我去开会好不好?
若后接动词,通常用动名词,不用不定式.如：
I stayed in bed all day instead of going to work.我睡了一整天,没有去上班.
You should be working instead of lying there in bed.你应该工作而不该在床上躺着.
有时具有连词的性质,可以连接两个相同的语法结构.如：
He ran quickly instead of slowly.他跑得快,不是跑得慢.
The situation is better instead of worse.形势是更好了,而不是更坏了.
