Recently a top school in Nanjing announced its new rules. One of them is that students are forbidden to watch Hunan TV at weekends. Instead, CCTV is recommended. Once known to the public, the rule set off a heated discussion among teachers, students and parents.
Some people are in favor of the school’s decision, believing that children need proper guidance and a good cultural environment during the course of growth. Therefore, they should keep away from programs that may mislead them or affect their studies. On the other hand, some people hold the view that children’s right to choose their own lifestyle should be respected.
As far as I’m concerned, bans of this kind aren’t practical for schools. Instead, students should be guided to choose what will benefit them.
