这是international economics里面的东西吧, 这里basis of currency应该是指 exchange rate, according to purchasing power parity condition, in the end the prices, in real terms,of one good in 2 different countries are to be the same, 所以比如英镑兑美金的汇率从 £1=$2 变成 £1=$1.5 同样一件衣服假设是英国生产的 在美国市场的价格就应该相应下调. 如果保持不变 那人们就会都在英国买 因为英镑贬值了,所以相对以前而言这件衣服现在变便宜了,美元价格不调整的话 那它就相对贵了,就没人买它了（当然这里有一些assumptions） 那美国商人竞争力就比英国的低了.
to sum up,我认为这里主要指exchange rate.
