I've got a new delicious item to add to my favorite foods list - You Ge Ma!(pronounced something like "yo-ga-ma") This treat comes from Chinese countryside in the Shanxi province.I was visiting my wife's birthplace near the city of Jin Cheng and this food is apparently really common in the area and it is actually very delicious.It seems it's usually enjoyed with a meal of noodles or noodle soup.I probably packed a few pounds during my two days there!
The recipe is simple - dried persimon (though not completely dried as you can see from the pictures) covered in noodle batter (which is basically flour and water mixed,similar to pasta) cooked in oil.I guess you could call them deep fried persimons?
