There are 3 reasons contributing to the decline in family size after 1970s.The first one being increase in divorce rate.As the divorce rate has been increasing steadily since 1970,the number of child in a family starts to decrease.The second reason is the legalization of abortion in Canada.Before 1980,abortion was considered to be illegal; therefore,a pregnant woman must give birth to her child.Once abortion is legalized,many unmarried young women now have the option of abortion.The final factor contributes to the decrease in family size is the necessity of daycare.Now,parents can no longer leave their children home alone.With busy work schedule,and high cost of daycare,many people simply choose not to have kids.
